Support Worker/Homeless/Substance Misuse
Central Care has an exciting position for an experienced Support Worker. This position is to work for a housing association that provides accommodation, including specialist services, to vulnerable homeless people with dual diagnosis of Mental Health and Substance Use. The emphasis is on helping them to live independently.
The role of the Specialist Support Worker is to provide support to clients within a hostel environment.
Duties will include:
- Providing a range of support, including emotional and practical support
- Creating support/ action plans for providing appropriate services based on the assessment and reflecting the services and resources available.
- Supporting customers to undertake all domestic tasks wherever possible, including practical assistance where they have not yet developed the skills, to ensure customers enjoy a high quality of accommodation.
- Empowering customers to ensure they receive the service and benefits they are entitled to.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have 1 years + experience within a similar role.
- Have experience of key working and the ability to offer guidance, advice and support to residents/tenants, taking emergency action where appropriate.
- Have an understanding of the complex needs and problems that confront homeless people, particularly those with a history of Mental Health issues.
- Enjoy social interaction and the company of others and have experience of joining in local activities to encourage customer involvement.
- Be motivated towards excellence and improvement of personal performance with a can do attitude.
- To have the relevant training certificates (including MDS Training, POVA, Health & Safety and Equality & Diversity)
